JULY 15, 16 & 17, 2016 - Put those dates on your calendar, polish up the boats, gather up the family and come on over!!  MOBYC is expanding the fun in celebration of our 15th Annual Harker Island Regatta.  We have new plans for Friday night, more fun on Saturday and great prizes for Sunday.

For 15 years this regatta has home grown through the efforts of the Eberle and Evans families to be one of the largest, highly competitive and most fun regattas in North America.  Sailors come from all over the country and this year will be no exception.  The Harkers Island Regatta is a celebration of youth sailing, that has generated donations to eastern North Carolina youth sailing programs.  In four years, we have provided over $10,000 to help keep these programs teaching young sailors.

The location of the weekend regatta events will be the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center, a great educational facility located on the Cape Lookout National SeashoreFriday will kick off with the annual casual practice sail around Harkers Island.  Friday is a good time to learn the intricacies of “marsh dancing” and “Hoi Toide” (that’s high tide for all you from off the island).

On Friday evening, MOBYC has live music lined up by the dynamic “One Man Carribean Jam Band”  Barefoot Wade, so get on your dancing shoes.  Blenders will be a swirling -  mixing up the best of libations - and betting will be on the crabs.  That right folks, place your bets for the Sand Crab of your choice.  Friday night’s dinner will be provided by non-other than the world famous Fish Hook Cafe of Harkers Island.

The Around Harkers Island Race will commence Saturday morning, starting off in front of the National Seashore Headquarters, passing through the Harkers Island bridge and working up the southern shore.  Spectator viewing will be available throughout the island shoreline!  As usual, registering sailors wil receive T-shirts, awards, water, Sunday continental breakfast and Sunday lunch.  Sail fast and get to shore to kick off the best regatta party of the season!  Dinner will commence at the Core Sound Museum with appetizers, steamed clams, a low-country boil, Dark & Stormy’s and the Annual Rum Cake Competition.  Rum cake is a delicacy and the best and brightest bakers come out to challenge the taste buds of our un-biased judges.  Winner takes the prize and diners get the spoils!  All this happens while watching on the water and in the sky videos of the days racing.

Saturday evening awards will be the Engraved Perpetual Trophies for the winner and first Junior Sailor.  Awards will also be presented to the top three finishers, top three finishers in the “Beater” class, top Female Sailor, top Master Sailor, top Grand Master and top Youth.

After continental breakfast, around the bouy racing will commence Sunday morning beginning approximately 1030.  Lunch and awards will follow the racing.  This year our prizes include Sunfish gear, sailing gear, gift certificates, ginger beer, and a remote controlled model Laser!

Come, join in the fun, the competition and the community of the Harkers Island Regatta.  The island residents are great supporters of our racing, so say hello and plan to set a spell.
